'Eigashima Shuzo’ is the only distillery in Japan being able to make not only Whisky but also Sake, Shochu and Umeshu, a Japanese plum wine. They are also the first distillery in Japan that obtained their whisky making license in 1919, almost a hundred years ago, before "Yamazaki” was established.
Kadhambam means ‘mixture’ or ‘combination’ in Tamil language, which could not define this Amrut whisky any better: a single malt that aged in bourbon cask before being first transferred into ex-oloroso casks, then into brandy casks and finally into rum casks. Kadhambam is a unique and thrilling whisky which requires time to show all the nuances of its aromatic and gustative palette
The whisky with best Indian grain, grown at the foot of the Himalaya, produced according to an old Indian tradition. He is fermented gently and burned in small ranks, to keep the natural flavours. This won distillate is then stored in oak barrels at unique tropical conditions on about 1000 metres of height in Bangalore, the Indian Garden City, to reach the maturity there.
Every last drop of this spectacular Scotch is triple distilled then matured for over twelve years. Our Lowland Single Malt Whisky has the tempting aroma of toasted almonds, caramelised toffee and the signature smooth delicate Auchentoshan taste. An intriguing 12 year old whisky that’s Distilled Different.
Nose: quite a bulky distillate, with a fat, greasy side and some brine. Some grassy notes, porridge and linseed oil. The sherry influence is not a classic one (just look at the colour, remember refill may well be third fill…). A slightly sulphury touch and vague apple sweetness, not exactly what we look for in a sherry cask, but it disappears with airing. Mouth: now this is better. A sharp briney side mixed with sweet and fruity eau-de-vie notes, maybe green melon. Hints of aspirin and gravel. Some waxy notes. Very close to the raw materials, definitely lacking some depth and complexity but essentially a well made whisky. Finish: quite long, with grass, bitter lemon and some green tea.
The third and final appearance of The Devil's Casks from Bowmore, this combines the features of the previous two. Both Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry casks have been used, resulting in an intense and rich whisky with notes of coffee, salted treacle, chocolate fudge and dates.
This entry level Bunnahabhain bottling comes in a redesigned bottle. This 12 year old is lightly peated for an Islay single malt and consequently is a light, fresh dram. Now at the higher strength of 46.3% - for more complexity and flavour.
The core of the Jura range, aged for 12 years in bourbon casks and then finished in Oloroso sherry. The result blends the distillery's characteristic gently smoky character with sweetness, spice and dark fruit. A great introduction to Jura.
